Belonging is one of the most important values in our society. We have all experienced the misery of not belonging—either we move to a new school and nobody speaks to us. We are turned down for a date by someone we really want to go out with. We don’t get the job we were hoping for or get fired. All of these situations isolate us and cause us great pain—we feel we don’t belong. Most of us have dealt with these disappointments and have moved on.
Imagine, if you will, living your entire life without belonging—with out the comfort and security of a mate or friends, not having a job that gives you the opportunity to not only make money but contributing to the success of your company or never expecting anyone to talk to you or even recognize your presence. HPS, for 42+ years, has made belonging a reality for many people in our society—people who have a disability, children with developmental issues, and others who do not have the social skills or work skills to be a productive contributing member of our community. As we come to the end of the first year with our new name, we decided that HPS, Helping People Succeed, Inc. suits us—it’s what we do everyday one life at a time. The HPS, Helping People Succeed Foundation, Inc. is growing and attracting new friends and donors daily. The foundation is making sure that HPS is fiscally and programmatically strong so we will be around many years from now to help people succeed. Our Starfish and Baby Starfish Societies are helping us achieve our mission of Helping People Succeed. We have met our programmatic and fiscal goals again this year. Our staff has been recognized by the community as follows:
Madeleine Greenwood, Vice President, Human Resources—
Kathy Derringer, Vice President, Baby Steps—Success by Six Children’s Hero Award
Bob Deyo, Chief Financial Officer—Character Counts

We are pleased and proud of the commitment, competence and dedication of our 140+ staff—everyday they make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve. Finally, a thank you to the community—we sincerely appreciate your interest, support and ongoing efforts to help us help people succeed!
